Highly recommended, everyone should go at least once, even if your from the Eastern Townships. You will more than likely want to go back to try out some of the other cabins.

Great hobbit hole. There is no actual circular door though and it's definitly smaller than Bilbo's. (A one room thing) But really pretty on the inside and clean. I wasn't there long so I have no idea about the outdoors activities.

What I recommend to bring: A little propane stove, slippers for the morning, a head lamp for the toilet at night, a portable radio to break the silence from time to time. Tin foil.

Cons: All the inconviences that come with no electricity or running hot water (but you should be willing to accept these in advance), price is a bit on the steep side. Hard to nearly impossible to keep the fire going all night, unless you wake up every 3 to 5 hours (even with a big hardwood log and the vent closed). However, this only means you'll have to restart it in the morning, no big deal.

Think camping for your food, keep the cooking simple. Suggestion: bring some tinfoil to wrap up your food and cook it quickly on a bed of dying embers. I cooked two, inch and a half steaks (medium-well done) wrapped in tin foil, cubed potatoes (in tin foil), mushrooms and onions (tin foil) on the embers in less than fifteen minutes. That is at least half the time compared to cooking on the stovetop, not to mention the time saved waiting for space to free up on the 2 foot cubed cooking area. It is a little tricky to turn them, but you can fold the tinfoil to make handles that are surprisingly cool to the touch and use the fire poker to move them around.

Pros: Great place, quite, the neighbours are far away, love the wood stove, lots of wood and water furnished by the helpful staff, everything you need to cook is available in the cabin, well insulated, clean, fun to live as though you are back at the turn of the 20th century. The cabins are each unique and are built to meet very high standards. The paths in the mature forest cross streams and lend themselves nicely to wildlife sightings (minks, hares, deer...).

Very nice and helpful staff. They did an awesome job with the rock house. Plenty of trails for hiking and if you don't feel like walking, you can get around by bike. It was a very special experience
